FUNERAL READINGS
Readers
One or two readers are needed.
One reader would read the first reading and another the second reading. However, if only one reader is available, he or she can do both.
Number of readings
In terms of the number of readings, there can be either two or three readings.
There can be either: one reading + second reading + Gospel reading
or: one reading + Gospel reading.
Choosing your own readings
If you wish to select your own readings, click on the icon below to see the recommended readings you can choose from.
The first reading should be from the Old Testament.
If the Responsorial Psalm is not being sung then you can choose one from those available listed here after the first readings.
The second reading is from the New Testament.
If the Gospel Acclamation is not being sung, choose one from those listed here.
The Gospel reading – please choose one (The priest reads the gospel).
Bidding Prayers
A reader is required to read the bidding prayers.
Fr Vincent will usually prepare these after speaking to you and then give them to you before the funeral.
